Replacement Dwelling
Location
Lands End, Cornwall
A rather unique opportunity to make the most of the views over the English Channel.
If this house looks just a little too picturesque, that's largely because it is!
It started as a 1950's dormer bungalow that had excellent loft insulation, but no insulation at all to the walls or floor.
The replacement building is an ample sized family dwelling with more than enough space to breathe in the wonderful sea air. As you can see it has breathtaking views towards France and is now fit for purpose.
The home is highly insulated throughout and exceeds current Building Regulation standards by a Cornish mile!
Energy has been in mind throughout the entirety of this project, with a three phase solar installation, split over several roof slopes, a full MVHR system (Mechanical Ventilation & Heat Recovery) and even the old building was used to form the soakaway system for rainwater.
The house itself is constructed using SIPS panels (a Structurally Insulated Panel System), meaning that the building was created off site and then erected in only a few days.
The result, I hope you will agree, is an inviting place to be indeed!
A painstaking level of detail went into making this house what you see before you. The process was always client centric however, as it is their house after all and not mine, so plentiful suggestions were made as the project progressed and certain elements stayed and others disappeared as things moved onwards.
The project took a long while from conception to the last paint brush being cleaned, but really, would you want to rush such a project and wish you had made different decisions?
I thoroughly enjoyed being so engrossed on a project such as this, so if you're considering building a new house then please feel free to get in touch and we'll see whether we might be able to work together to realise your dream.
Fancy seeing the house for yourself, why not rent it for a family gathering!
